Open-RMF Capabilities Extended in Collaboration with NCS

Open source works best when you have a strong community that embraces collaboration. We’re really excited to share that NCS (ncs.co) is one of those community members that saw the value of Open-RMF (open-rmf.org) and worked with us to extend and apply the open source platform in order to better support their specific needs in fleet management of security robots.

Open-RMF is a communication and orchestration software service that allows fleets of disparate robots to interoperate with each other as well as with physical infrastructure such as doors and lifts. The framework was launched with our friends at Changi General Hospital as you may have read about in WIRED last year.

Robotmanager is an enterprise C2 platform to orchestrate different types of autonomous fleets, with built-in AI. From fleet management of heterogeneous service robots to advanced robotic navigation software solutions, NCS is collaborating with a growing number of partners in the region to assert its footprint across key industry sectors like healthcare, logistics, and smart cities.

This collaboration improved some specific open-source features available in Open-RMF for the global robotics ecosystem; GPS coordinate support, teleoperation, video streaming, event notification and customized tasks. You can read more about the collaboration in this Medium article produced by NCS. We like to say “software is never done” but each one of these collaborations with governments and commercial companies delivers value directly to our collaborators and also helps the entire robotics community grow!
