On Open Robotics’ solutions and reach

You know Open Robotics as a hub of the global robotics industry through our open software and hardware platforms for robotics. But many wonder how we operate and grow as a business. We do these things by offering a wide array of research, development, and consulting services to industry and government customers around the world. We design our customer engagements so that we can  share key results in open source solutions for the benefit of the global robotics community.

Open Robotics’ mission is to

support the development, distribution, and adoption of open source software for use in robotics research, education, and product development.

Open Robotics is composed of three legal entities; the parent Open Source Robotics Foundation (OSRF) founded in 2012 and its subsidiaries Open Source Robotics Corporation (OSRC) and Open Source Robotics Corporation, Singapore (OSRC-SG) founded in 2016 and 2018, respectively. OSRF serves as the non-profit arm of the organization; and holds the copyright for the open source software libraries, while the two corporations (OSRC and OSRC-SG) allow us to engage in for-profit software development projects. Each of the subsidiaries support the goals of its parent, OSRF, and by extension the global robotics community to create novel, open source solutions. The growth of the subsidiaries allows us to employ full-time open-source developers and provide ROS developers with the resources necessary to support a global software community. Resources like the ROS Build Farm, ROS Index, ROS Discourse, ROS Answers, and ROSCon / ROS World are all made possible through the partnership between OSRF and ORSC. These developers and resources allow us to constantly improve our software, and be more responsive to feature requests, bugs and issues, and critical security vulnerabilities.

Open Robotics Locations

Open Robotics is the steward of ROS (Robot Operating System), the most actively-used open-source robot software development framework in the world, as well as Ignition Gazebo, a widely-used open-source robotic simulation framework commonly used with ROS. Over the past three and a half years in Singapore, we have been the lead software developer of the Open Robotics Middleware Framework (Open-RMF) which is a collection of reusable, scalable libraries and tools built on top of ROS 2 that enable the interoperability of heterogeneous fleets of any type of robotic systems.

Our solutions range from platform, product and application development to simulations, competitions and test services. We offer these solutions around the world, in all markets where robots operate!

If you’re interested to find out more, take a look through our site and if you’d like to engage with us for your next robotics project, do reach out to us. We’re keeping the lights on for you.
